Tom’s Dining in the United States

Tom and Tracy in Philadelphia

From my favorite pasta restaurant in Philadelphia to a terrific lunch spot near Presidio Park in San Francisco, this is a (currently) shortlist of restaurants in the United States.  With national trips planned in the next few years, this section will most certainly grow larger and larger (as will my stomach), especially when it is deemed we can all travel safely again.

Roma Antica – San Francisco, CA

A Little Bite Of Rome in the City By The Bay Roma Antica – San Francisco, CA Visited: May 2019  •  Italian I’m always on the prowl for a great cacio e pepe, and recently I found one of the best I’ve ever tasted at a small restaurant located in San Francisco’s Marina District.  Roma Antica specializes in making authentic Roman recipes, which is no surprise since one of the owners hails from Rome. On a recent jaunt to Northern California, we dined in San Francisco with friends Kim and Mary.  Their daughter lives there and is a fount of excellent dining knowledge.                                           … Read more…

Ristorante Pesto – Philadelphia, PA

South Philly Perfection Ristorante Pesto – Philadelphia, PA Italian – Visited: April 2018   Before leaving for Philadelphia many people offered me dozens of restaurant recommendations, but after diligently doing my homework (something I should have done in college) there was only one place I knew we MUST visit … Ristorante Pesto in South Philly. To say that it lived up to its advanced billing would be an immense understatement. In fact, I’ll go as far to say that when you add up the food, atmosphere and service at Ristorante Pesto, it’s one of the top Italian restaurants I’ve dined at in my life … which includes all our trips to Italy. There are not many (if any) times we can … Read more…

Arguello – San Francisco, CA

Brunch At The Presidio Arguello – San Francisco, CA Visited:  May 2016 After our tour of the Walt Disney Family Museum (click link on the left to take you to the story in California Dreaming), Kim, Mary, Tracy and I had worked up quite an appetite. Filing past the dozens of food trucks and throngs of picnickers… …in the distance we spied what looked to be a restaurant (Arguello), which just happened to be located in quite an historic spot at the Presidio. The Presidio Officer’s Club was established in 1776 (hmm, didn’t something else happened that year) by a group of Spanish explorers who utilized the facility as a place for military officers to gather.  It stayed in use … Read more…

Terrapin Creek Cafe Restaurant – Bodega Bay, CA

A Michelin One Star Experience…In Beautiful Bodega Bay Terrapin Creek Cafe Restaurant – Bodega Bay, CA Visited: May 29, 2016 If you drive by Terrapin Creek Cafe Restaurant in the pretty, coastal town of Bodega Bay, you’d be hard-pressed to guess that you were passing an establishment that has been awarded a coveted Michelin star.  As a matter of fact, you might not even see it, as it’s tucked away just off the road. Back in 2008, it seems that Terrapin Creek’s owners Andrew Tuong and his wife, Liya Lin (both of them accomplished chefs), were a bit burned out by the San Francisco restaurant scene where they had worked for a year.  So the two moved to Bodega Bay … Read more…
