Last Visit: February 2025
We love breakfast, and Home Restaurant in Los Feliz is without a doubt one of our favorite spots to have it. We love the location near Griffith Park (for hiking with Garbo), and it’s just off I-5 for meeting friends, Kim and Mary, when passing by on the way to their Northern California home from Carlsbad.
Plus, the tree shaded patio is dog friendly, which made for fun meals with the late, great Remi, along with Kim and Mary’s adventurous schnauzer, the late great Fenway.
On a cold day, you can sit inside the cozy Craftsman-style building. where Aram and Rose Serobian have been greeting guests for the past 20 years.
They also have a bar on the patio if in the mood for a libation.
Today, we concentrate on breakfast. We always try to arrive before 9 a.m. on weekends as there are no reservations for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. By 9:30 – 10 a.m. the place is usually pumping. It has a nice, peaceful ambiance despite the traffic whizzing by on Hillhurst. There’s a large and varied menu selection and we’ve tried numerous items through the years. On our most recent visit, Mary tried the Egg Fried Rice, turkey sausage, sliced marcona almonds, chives, lemons with an egg. Delicious! I went with the traditional Eggs Benedict.
I have also had the Huevos Benedictos, crunchy corn sopes topped with black bean spread, queso fresco, salsa verde and poached eggs. I can recommend both.
Kim usually goes with the All American, two eggs, three buttermilk pancakes or French Toast for $1 extra, and choice of bacon or sausage. As you can see from the photo, Kim got the French Toast and sausage. Kim said the sausages were terrific, and he would be happy to give me a bite … but there was nothing left.
On one of our prior visits Mary ordered the Breakfast Burrito, flour tortilla, eggs, bacon, potatoes, Jack cheese, Cheddar and a side of salsa. Mary ate the entire burrito which is something she usually doesn’t do. Good burrito.
Tracy gives the Los Huevos Rancheros, crispy corn tortilla topped with black beans, ranchero sauce, cabbage slaw, queso fresco, scallions, guacamole and eggs, in her case scrambled, a Wow! and said she would definitely get it again. I love it, too.
I also give the Challah bread French Toast with sliced bananas, fresh strawberries and blueberries, a Wow! Perfectly cooked with hints of cinnamon.
Oh yeah, I also really enjoyed the breakfast quesadilla. We really have been here a lot!
Tracy also likes both the Chilaquiles, corn tortilla chips, fire roasted tomato sauce or salsa verde (ask for both!), green onions, queso fresco, sour cream, and eggs and the Vegan Breakfast Burrito with turmeric tofu and kale. She said the burrito was terrific, but I will have to take her word for that as kale is an item that will never cross my lips again.
Many of the breakfast items come with your choice of HOME fries or fruit. The fruit is fresh and seasonal, and the fries are crunchy and delicious. Choices! Last time, they even offered some mini doughnuts, and like Homer Simpson, it’s hard for me to pass up a doughnut (or three). “DOUGH!”
The list goes on and on.
The lunch items are just as delicious as breakfast, and I can personally vouch for the Fish & Chips. The menu options for dinner looks amazing. We have to get over there for dinner and try the Short Rib Pot Pie or maybe the BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Fish Tacos … well I could go on and on.
We’ve been here so many times in the past few years that our motto is now, “You Can Go Home Again!”
