I had plotted a morning walk from Basilique du Sacré-Cœur down Butte Montmarte to the Moulin Rouge when we were tempted by the aroma emanating from a tiny cafe along with what looked like mouthwatering pastries in the window.
Inside, the deli case was already brimming with crab buns topped with crab, green apples, celery, carrots and chives…
Oh wait, here comes some Boeuf bourguignon.
Oh my, those Oeufs mimosa (hard boiled eggs) look good.
We might stay here all day!
Then we looked at the pastry side of the case, which had lemon bars, chocolate cookies with fleur de sel and banana bread.
As we had skipped breakfast, Tracy was starving and ordered the braised lettuce with roasted tomatoes, goat cheese and olives as well as a tortilla with potatoes and onions both of which earned a Wow! from Tracy.
Trying to watch my waistline, I ordered a slice of caramel cake with a frosted glass of fresh squeezed lemonade with a sprig of rosemary and a cappuccino. Wow!
While we were eating, more delicious dishes emerged from the petite kitchen, including a steaming hot bowl of carrot gnocchi with parsley pesto, which this still food-deprived twosome from the previous evening had to try. Délicieux!
Then came a platter of the house special Banh mi, shredded beef marinated overnight then piled on brioche buns with cucumber, cilantro and carrots. Mon dieu!
Next out, another platter with tarts topped with roasted tomatoes, goat cheese and olives.
While traveling, it’s always a treat to find a hidden treasure by complete accident. La présentation est tres magnifique! I had to hurry and pay before Tracy ordered more food, and I ate all their pastries
Although primarily a take away place, there are a few tables outside and chairs inside the cozy space. We subsequently learned that it was a catering restaurant with take away, and that they had only been open for a few months.
We very much regret not circling back to this terrific cafe before leaving Paris but we highly recommend you visit and be sure you’re hungry! We will certainly stop in on our next journey here.
