A Peachy Keen Breakfast
Restaurant type: Breakfast/Lunch
This was going to be a big event; the first time that Remi and Frankie (our two new Corgis) would venture out with us for breakfast. Of course, bringing dogs narrowed our choice, but we knew exactly where we wanted to venture. It’s a restaurant where we had once enjoyed a a great (and filling) breakfast, Peach Cafe in Monrovia.
This is your consummate neighborhood restaurant joint, with an outdoor patio (perfect for people and their four-legged friends), plus a very homey interior. We were greeted by a woman who lead us onto the covered patio section, and the four of us settled in. Well, Tracy and I settled in while Remi and Frankie took in some of the delightful smells.
On our previous visit to Peach Cafe, I had eaten a spectacular breakfast that included a Chorizo Frittata, an open-faced Frittata filled with House-Made Beef and Pork Chorizo, Cheddar Cheese, Tomato and Onion ($10.95). On that occasion, I also had a half order of their pancakes. I wasn’t quite that hungry today, but knew I had to try those pancakes again (more on them in a second).
I pride myself on making fantastic blueberry pancakes. In truth, I have never tasted better pancakes than the ones I make (from an old family recipe). After all these years, my pancakes have now have an equal.
Soon at my table was the half order of Café Blueberry Pancakes, Buttermilk Pancakes with a touch of Orange and Baked-In Whole Blueberries. A full order is four large pancakes ($7.95) while the half order is two pancakes ($5.95). Not only are these pancakes light, but the orange zest cooked into the pancakes and the topping of fresh strawberries makes these the best pancakes I have ever tasted.
Tracy’s breakfast, the same she had on our previous visit, was also terrific. With Remi and Frankie salivating at her feet, Tracy had the Southwestern Breakfast (Chilaquiles), Crunchy Tortillas , Scrambled Eggs, Cheddar Cheese and Turkey with Red and Green Sauce, topped with Guacamole ($10.95). She loved it!! Sadly for Frankie and Remi, Tracy dropped none on the floor.
Besides what we ordered, the menu is full of American and European breakfast favorites. You could come here 15 times and not order the same thing twice (except me, who will always have room for some of those pancakes). Next time, the weekend-only Chocolate Waffles ($9.95) are calling Tracy’s name while I might try the Strawberry Crepes ($8.95).
The Maitai rating is high for Peach Cafe. Food ranks as a 4.5, value a 4.25 and ambiance (the service we have received definitely moves this aspect up several notches) a 4.3. Peach Cafe also has a Coffee Bar with a multitude of Espressos, Cappuccinos and Lattes available. There is also a case containing a number of Pastries, including some delicious-looking Cupcakes.
If you visit for lunch, wine and beer is available. So far, we have only tried Peach Cafe for breakfast, but will be going there soon for one of their special dinners. We will probably be back sooner for another of their great breakfasts. Peach Cafe can get really busy, especially on a Sunday morning, so try and arrive before 10:30.
